Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV rose. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.5%.
US equity indexes and government bond yields were mixed in midday trading Thursday as investors weighed Nvidia's ( NVDA ) Q2 earnings and Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook's lawsuit to fight a move to oust her from the central bank's board.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each added 0.3%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher as well.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) gained 1.9%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was up 0.5%.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 0.6%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), slipped 0.4%.
Commodities
Crude oil dropped 0.7% and the United States Oil Fund (USO) shed 0.3%. Natural gas climbed 3.3%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 4.4%.
Gold on Comex rose 0.8% and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 0.6%. Silver gained 1.4%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 1.5% higher.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) dipped 0.7%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were in the red.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 0.1%, VanEck Retail ETF (RTH), and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) also declined.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) lost 0.6%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) edged down. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was fractionally lower.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was up 0.2%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) rose.
Cryptocurrency
In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) advanced 0.7%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF ( BITO ) was up 0.7%, ProShares Ether ETF ( EETH ) lost 1.3%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF ( BETH ) was fractionally higher.
