Exchange-Traded Funds Slip, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

01:07 PM EST, 01/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower on Monday. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.9%.

US equity indexes traded mixed as the so-called Magnificent-7 took a beating, pushing the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite lower.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 1.5% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) added 1.8%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 1.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 1.9%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) lost 0.9%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 0.5%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 0.5%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 2.8%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 2%. Natural gas fell 1.6%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 2.1%.

Gold was 1.3% lower on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) dropped 1.1%. Silver dipped 3.2%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 2.2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was flat; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were in the red.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.9%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) edged higher. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.3%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was up 0.6%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were rising.
