Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Decline After Midday

01:10 PM EDT, 09/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.5%.

US benchmark stock indexes traded lower while government bond yields rose in midday trading on Wednesday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each added about 2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) slipped 0.9%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) moved lower as well.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.4%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was down 0.7%.

Financial

The Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) lost 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) fell 0.6%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), gained 0.6%.

Commodities

Crude oil added 2.1%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 1.8%. Natural gas rose 0.9%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) shed 0.1%.

Gold on Comex lost 1.2%, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) were down 0.8%. Silver declined 1.1%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) shed 0.4%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.1%. The Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) was up 0.1%, while iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) added 0.2%.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) gained 0.6%. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) added 0.6%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) climbed 0.4%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 0.3%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also fell; iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) eased 0.4%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was down 0.3%. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.

Cryptocurrency

In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) added 0.9%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF ( BITO ) was up 1.9%, ProShares Ether ETF ( EETH ) gained 0.5%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF ( BETH ) rose 1.6%.
