Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Decline After Midday Trading

01:01 PM EDT, 07/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.7%.

US equity indexes fell with crude oil, while most government bond yields rose after midday on Friday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) were roughly 0.5% lower each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dipped 1.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) lost 2.3% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dropped 2.4%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.6%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 2.5% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) added 2.5%.

Commodities

Crude was down 2.1%; United States Oil Fund (USO) lost 1.4%. Natural gas fell nearly 2% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 0.1%.

Gold was down 2.1% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was 1.6% lower. Silver lost about 3% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) retreated 2.3%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) eased 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were declining.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 1.2%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.5%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 0.2%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 0.4%. iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ) and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were lower.
