Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Decline Following Wholesale Price Inflation Data

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were trading lower. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.4%.

US benchmark stock indexes declined while government bond yields rose after midday Thursday following a hotter-than-expected wholesale price inflation in February.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.8% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) gained 0.9%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 0.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) declined 2.1% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 1.7%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) contracted 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was down 2.1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 2.1%.

Commodities

Crude was up 1.8%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 2.1%. Natural gas was up 3.4% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) increased 2.4%.

Gold was down 0.9% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 0.6%. Silver was down 0.6% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) slid 0.4%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.7%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) slid 0.8%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.7% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 1.7%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 0.4% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were lower.
