Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Drop After Midday

01:12 PM EDT, 03/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.7%.

US equity indexes fell in midday trading Tuesday, extending the steep decline from the previous session.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) shed 0.8% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) fell 1%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 0.9%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) each dropped 2.2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 1.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dipped 3.9%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) climbed 3.7%.

Commodities

Crude oil rose 0.5%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 0.5%. Natural gas dropped 0.6%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 0.7%.

Gold rose 0.8% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was 1.1% higher. Silver added 2%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 2.4% higher.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) eased 1.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) dipped 1.6%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) was down 0.6%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) declined 2.8%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 1.5% down, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were softer. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 2.4% lower.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dipped 1.8%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were in the red.
