Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Drop After Midday Trading

12:59 PM EDT, 08/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) lost 0.2%.

US equity indexes slipped in midday trading on Tuesday, taking a breather following recent gains.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each fell 2.2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dipped 0.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were declining.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was down 1.1%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 1.6% lower.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) lost 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) fell 1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 0.9%.

Commodities

Crude fell 0.5%; United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 0.5%. Natural gas dropped 2.2% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) retreated 1.4%.

Gold was up 0.1% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell less than 0.1%. Silver was 0.3% higher and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) rose 0.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) gained 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was down 0.1%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 0.4%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 0.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was down 0.4%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
