Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Fall After Hot Inflation Report

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were trading lower. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 1.1%.

US equity indexes sank while government bond yields surged as hotter-than-expected consumer price inflation lowered market expectations for an interest-rate cut in June.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 0.4% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) slid 0.4%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 1.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) declined 3.9% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 1.9%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) contracted 1.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was down 3.8% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was up 3.7%.

Commodities

Crude was up 0.1%; United States Oil Fund (USO) was fractionally lower. Natural gas was up 0.3% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) declined 1.1%.

Gold was down 0.2% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 0.6%. Silver was up 0.5% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) slid 0.5%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) decreased 0.7%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) fell 1.5%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) slid 1.3% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 2.1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 1% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were lower.
