Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Fall After Midday Trading

01:01 PM EDT, 10/23/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 1.3% lower.

US equity indexes fell in midday trading Wednesday as risk-off sentiment pervaded most sectors amid continued gains in government bond yields.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both fell past 0.7%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 1.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) shed 1.4%, while iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was 1.4% lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) lost 0.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 0.7%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose less than 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) added 0.1%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was flat.

Commodities

Crude oil was down 1.6%; United States Oil Fund (USO) lost 1.2%. Natural gas fell fractionally, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) dipped 0.4%.

Gold fell 0.9% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) dropped 1%. Silver shed 3.2%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) retreated 3%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were in the red.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 1.3% lower; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) rose fractionally while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) dipped 0.5%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.7%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 1.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 0.2%, while Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
