Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Fall After Midday Trading

01:10 PM EST, 12/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.8%.

US benchmark stock indexes were lower in midday trading Monday, adding to losses from the previous session.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) rose about 0.4% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dropped 0.7%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) lost 1.3%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dipped 1.3%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was down 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) fell 2.3%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) climbed 2.4%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 1.2%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 1.6%. Natural gas gained 18%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose nearly 17%.

Gold was 0.6% lower on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 0.5%. Silver dropped 2% while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 1.4%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 0.9%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) lost 1.1% while iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) fell 1%.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was 1.1% lower; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were in the red.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 1%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 1.1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was down 0.7%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were weaker.
