Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Higher After Midday

12:59 PM EDT, 08/07/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM and IVV were higher Wednesday. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) gained 0.7%.

US equity indexes extended gains, led by technology and utilities, and government bond yields rose after Wednesday's midday trading.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both climbed 2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) added 0.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was up 0.2% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 0.3% higher.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) advanced 3% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 3%.

Commodities

Crude gained 3%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 3.2%. Natural gas climbed 3.7% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) advanced 3.6%.

Gold rose 0.2% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) edged up 0.5%. Silver was down 0.7% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) dipped 0.2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.7%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged down 0.2%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) was higher, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) shed 0.5%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also dropped. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 0.8%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.8%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were also up.
