Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Higher After Midday

01:18 PM EDT, 10/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was less than 0.1% lower.

US equity indexes were advancing after midday trading Wednesday, with quarterly earnings and declining crude oil futures in focus.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.4% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) gained 0.5%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) climbed 0.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) added 0.2%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) advanced 1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 2.7%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 2.8%.

Commodities

Crude oil dipped 0.4%; United States Oil Fund (USO) dropped 0.6%. Natural gas slumped 4.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) shed 3.7%.

Gold was up 0.4% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 0.5%. Silver was 0.6% higher, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) advanced 0.9%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) also fell, while iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) steadied.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged up 0.1%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were also higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) gained 0.3%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also advanced. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) climbed 0.7%, while Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also traded higher.
