Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) gained 2.4%.
US equity indexes rose with government bond yields in midday trading Thursday after retail sales increased more than forecast.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each rose about 1.4%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) added 2.8%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also rising.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was up 5.4% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 4.4% higher.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 1.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) gained 2.8% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 2.7%.
Commodities
Crude rose 1.8%; United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 1.7%. Natural gas advanced 1.5% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 1.4% up.
Gold was up 0.7% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.4%. Silver was 4.4% higher and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 3.5%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) gained 1.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were mixed with the latter declining.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 2.9%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) advanced 0.3%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 1.6%.
Industrial
Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was up 1.5%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
