Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Higher After Midday Trading

01:09 PM EDT, 10/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV rose Wednesday. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 0.2%.

US benchmark stock indexes advanced amid a flurry of quarterly earnings and as investors weighed a weaker-than-forecast increase in the advance estimate for Q3 economic growth.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) added 0.4% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was 0.3% higher.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell nearly 1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) dipped 0.4% and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was down 0.3%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) both shed 3%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 2%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 2%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 2.1%; United States Oil Fund (USO) added 2.1%. Natural gas shed 1%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 1%.

Gold was up 0.6% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.5%. Silver fell 1%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) shed 1.7%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down less than 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were mixed with the latter up.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 0.5% higher; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) rose marginally while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.4%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.6%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were trending lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 0.3%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.1%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) climbed 0.2%, and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) rose 0.5%.
