US equity indexes traded lower ahead of quarterly earnings reports from three mega-caps in the so-called Magnificent-7 group of companies and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's views on the path ahead for interest rates.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.1% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was fractionally higher.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) lost 1.7%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were trending lower.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) shed 0.2%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) declined 0.5%.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) climbed 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 0.3%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 0.3%.
Commodities
Crude oil fell 1.6%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) slumped 2%. Natural gas was down 0.5%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose 1.7%.
Gold was fractionally lower on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 0.6%. Silver added 1.9%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 1.1% higher.

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.6%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was less than 0.1% lower; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) rose 0.3%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 0.4%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 0.5%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.6%.
Industrial
Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was up 0.1%, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
