Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After Midday

01:13 PM EDT, 06/17/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV declined. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.7%.

US equity indexes declined in midday trading on Tuesday as President Donald Trump's call for an evacuation of Tehran helped send crude oil futures higher.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.9% and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) advanced 1.3%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also in the red.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.5%, while iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) rose 0.4%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) lost 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) fell 1.2%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), added 1%.

Commodities

Crude oil rose 2.7%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) advanced 3.4%. Natural gas was up 2.1%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) climbed 2.1%.

Gold was 0.4% lower on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell fractionally. Silver rose 2.1%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was up 2.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also declined.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) slipped 1.2%; VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) slid 0.2%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) lost 0.4%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 1%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) also declined. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) eased 1.4%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) fell 0.3%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were softer.
