Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 1.1%.
US equity indexes fell in midday trading Wednesday before the release of quarterly results from Nvidia ( NVDA ) , the poster child for the so-called artificial intelligence trade.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) shed 0.8% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was down 0.7%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) lost 1.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were declining.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was down 1.6%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 1.9% lower.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was up 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 0.3% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 0.1%.
Commodities
Crude fell 0.8%; United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 1%. Natural gas rose 2.9% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) added 2.2%.
Gold was down 0.7% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 0.9%. Silver was 2.7% lower and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 2.5% down.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was down 1%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were declining.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 0.1% higher; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were rising. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 0.2%.
Industrial
Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was 0.1% higher. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were mixed, with the latter trading fractionally lower.
