Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Lower After Midday Trading

12:55 PM EDT, 09/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% softer.

US equity indexes fell in choppy midday trading on Tuesday amid a decline in government bond yields and a sharp sell-off in crude oil.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each lost around 1.9%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) gained 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were edging up.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was down 1.5%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 0.9% lower.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was 5.8% lower and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 5.8%.

Commodities

Crude was down 4.6%; United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 4.3%. Natural gas rose 1.8%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) added 3%.

Gold added 0.3% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) climbed 0.3%. Silver was 0.3% lower, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 0.2%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was 0.2% lower; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) advanced 0.1%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 0.1%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 0.7%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was down 0.5%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were weaker.
