US equity indexes were mixed in midday trading on Wednesday after the wholesale price inflation rate fell for the first time in four months, belying market expectations.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both added 1.1%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 2.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) gained.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 0.9%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) climbed 1.8%.
Financial
The Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) eased 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 0.4% and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), rose 0.4%.
Commodities
Crude oil gained 2.1%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) added 1.9%. Natural gas dipped 2.4%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 2.6%.
Gold on Comex rose fractionally, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) added 0.4%. Silver gained 0.7%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed 0.5%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) lost 1.2%. Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) dropped as well.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) shed 0.8%. VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) fell 1.1%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) dipped 0.3%.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) shed 1%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) dropped; iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 1.2%.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) gained 0.8%. Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) edged higher, too.
Cryptocurrency
In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) added 2.6%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF ( BITO ) was up 2.4%, ProShares Ether ETF ( EETH ) gained 2%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF ( BETH ) rose 2.3%.
