Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday Friday

01:08 PM EDT, 08/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM was lower while IVV was higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 0.4%.

US equity indexes were mixed after midday Friday as investors weighed the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation data for July.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) each fell about 0.6%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) added 0.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) gained.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was up 0.7%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 1.2% higher.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 0.2% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 0.2%.

Commodities

Crude fell 2.5%; United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 2.7%. Natural gas was down 1.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) lost 1.5%.

Gold was down 1% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 0.7%. Silver was 2.2% lower, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was down 1.5%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 0.3%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) was higher while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was in the red.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 0.3% lower; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) fell. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) dipped 1.1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was 0.3% lower. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
