Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

12:58 PM EDT, 07/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM and IVV were mixed, with the latter trading 0.8% lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) fell 1.6%.

US equity indexes traded mixed as the Dow Jones Industrial Average eked out a gain after financials led the sectors intraday and technology extended declines ahead of quarterly earnings from heavyweights post-bell.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 1.1% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was 1.4% higher.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) lost 2.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) dipped 3.3% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 3.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) climbed 1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 3.1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 3.1%.

Commodities

Crude was down 0.9%; United States Oil Fund (USO) dipped 0.8%. Natural gas rose 3.5% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 2.5%.

Gold was up 0.5% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was 0.6% higher. Silver gained 1.2% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 1.1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.8%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were declining.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) retreated 1.1%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) edged down 0.3%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 0.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was up 0.2%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ) were mixed with the latter trading higher.
