Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

12:56 PM EDT, 08/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM and IVV were mixed, with the latter trading higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) gained 0.6%.

US equity indexes traded mixed and most government bond yields fell in choppy midday trading on Monday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.5% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) climbed 0.3%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) added 1.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were also higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was up 0.3% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was nearly 1% higher.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) lost nearly 1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 1.1%.

Commodities

Crude gained 2.6%; United States Oil Fund (USO) added 2.4%. Natural gas climbed 2.1% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) advanced 1.4%.

Gold rose 1.2% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) gained 1.3%. Silver was 1.4% higher and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 1.8%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also declining.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged down 0.3%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) was higher, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) eased 0.1%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 0.6%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) fell 0.5%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were also down.
