US equity indexes and government bond yields traded mixed in midday trading Tuesday after a closely monitored consumer confidence gauge surprisingly increased.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) shed 1.1% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was down 0.9%.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) added 0.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were rising.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was up 0.5%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 0.9% higher.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was up 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 1.1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 1.2%.
Commodities
Crude fell 2.3%; United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 2.1%. Natural gas fell 1.9% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) retreated 2.2%.
Gold was down 0.2% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 0.2%. Silver was 0.2% lower and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was fractionally up.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) climbed 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) was flat and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) was lower.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was down 0.4%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 0.1% lower; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were declining. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 0.7%.
Industrial
Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was 0.2% lower. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
