Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM rose and IVV were mixed with the iShares Core S&P 500 ETF down fractionally. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) lost less than 0.1%.
US equity indexes were also mixed midday Tuesday alongside gains in most government bond yields as retail sales unexpectedly increased a day before the Federal Reserve's policy decision.
Energy
iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) added roughly 1% each.
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were down.
SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) increased almost 1%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 0.2% down.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was 0.5% higher and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was 0.4% lower.
Commodities
Crude was up 2.6%; United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 1.7%. Natural gas fell 0.2%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) dropped 0.4%.
Gold edged down 0.6% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 0.8%. Silver was 0.3% lower, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) shed 0.5%.
Consumer
Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was down 1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were lower.
Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 0.4%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.
Health Care
Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 1%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 0.4%.
Industrial
Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.2%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
