Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

01:07 PM EDT, 09/27/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM rose and IVV was fractionally lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) shed 0.4%.

US equity indexes were mixed in choppy midday trading on Friday as most government bond yields fell after fresh inflation data showed price pressures mostly eased.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 1.6% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was up 1.4%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) fell 0.8%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) lost 0.7% while iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was down 0.6%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.5% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dipped 1.4%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 0.5%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) rose 1.4% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dipped 1.1%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 0.7%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 1.3%. Natural gas added 5.6%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) edged up 5.4%.

Gold lost 0.7% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) fell 0.8%. Silver was 1.3% lower, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell 1.7%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) added 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were mixed with the latter trading higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 0.1%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was up 0.2%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) added 0.9%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.4%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
