Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mixed After Midday Trading

01:10 PM EST, 12/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM retreated, while IVV advanced. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.1% higher.

US equity indexes were also mixed after midday trading on Thursday as caution prevailed ahead of November's nonfarm payrolls numbers.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.7% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) gained 0.8%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) eased 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) dipped 0.2% and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was down 0.3%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) dropped 0.9%, while iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) lost 1.4%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 0.6%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) gained 1.6%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) shed 1.5%.

Commodities

Crude oil was down 0.3%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.7%. Natural gas rose 1%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) edged down 0.2%.

Gold was 1% weaker on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 0.9%. Silver shed 1.1%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was 0.8% lower.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) edged up 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also advanced.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) climbed 1.2%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) added 0.1%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) shed 1.4%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) dropped 1% and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) also fell 1%. Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) was down 1%, while iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) dipped 0.6%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was 0.7% lower. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were also in the red.
