Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Mostly Down After Midday Friday

12:56 PM EDT, 09/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were lower. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) shed 0.3%.

US equity indexes were mostly down midday Friday, giving up some of its strong gains from the prior trading session in the wake of the Federal Reserve's policy easing.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both lost about 0.3%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dipped 0.6%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) lost 0.4% while iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) fell 0.3%.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) were both 2% lower.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) fell 0.3%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) dropped 1% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) rose 1%.

Commodities

Crude was up 0.4%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose fractionally. Natural gas added 2.3%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) edged up 3.5%.

Gold gained 1.3% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 1.4%. Silver was 0.7% higher, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 1.7%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up less than 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were mixed, with the former marginally up.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) shed 0.2%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were lower.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 0.5%; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) declined 1%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) dropped 0.6%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
