Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 1%.

US equity indexes rose amid higher government bond yields ahead of the policy announcements from the Federal Reserve and Chair Jerome Powell's press briefing on Wednesday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) were up 1.4% and 1.5%, respectively.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up 1.1%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also advanced.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) rose 0.8%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) gained 0.6%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) was up 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) added 2.4%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) slid 2.4%.

Commodities

Crude oil rose 0.5%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) was up 0.8%. Natural gas climbed 4.7%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 4.4% higher.

Gold was up 0.1% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was down 0.1%. Silver was down 1.6%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) lost 1%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was 0.3% lower; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) also edged down.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) rose 1.2%; retail fund VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) was up 0.2%, and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 1.3%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 0.2% lower, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) declined. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 0.4%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) was up 1.1%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) also advanced.
