Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday

01:20 PM EDT, 08/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was down 0.1%.

US equity indexes rose after midday Wednesday amid lower government bond yields and a weaker US dollar as expectations of a rate cut in September increased.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) were each up about 0.1%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) dipped 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) also moved lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) gained 0.5%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 0.8% up.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 0.2%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) climbed 1.1%, and its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), declined 0.8%.

Commodities

Crude oil lost 1.7%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 1.4%. Natural gas eased 0.3%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose 0.3%.

Gold added 0.3% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.3%. Silver advanced 1.3%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was up 1.6%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.2%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and the iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were also higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) gained 1.1%, and VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) rose.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) added 1.4%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were also up. iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) rose 2.2%.

Industrial

Industrial Select Sector SPDR (XLI) shed 0.4%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were mixed, with the latter rising 0.2%.

Cryptocurrency

In midday activity, bitcoin (BTC-USD) rose 1.4%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, ProShares Bitcoin ETF ( BITO ) added 1.6%, ProShares Ether ETF ( EETH ) climbed 4%, and ProShares Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF ( BETH ) was up 1.1%.
