Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday Trading

12:54 PM EDT, 04/18/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were trading higher. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.2%.

US benchmark stock indexes rose with government bond yields, while crude oil was up slightly after midday on Thursday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.2% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) gained 0.2%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was down 0.5%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were mixed, with the latter trading higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 0.7% while iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) edged down 0.6%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.9%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was up 1.8% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 1.8%.

Commodities

Crude was up 0.8%; United States Oil Fund (USO) gained 0.5%. Natural gas was up 2.2% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) rose 0.8%.

Gold was up 0.4% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.5%. Silver was 0.2% higher and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) edged up 0.3%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.4%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) eased 0.1%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.3% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was down 0.5%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) gained 0.5% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were higher.
