Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday Trading

01:01 PM EDT, 08/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded fund IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) gained 0.2%.

US equity indexes ground higher, set for weekly gains, while most government bond yields declined in midday trading on Friday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) fell 0.2% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) was down marginally.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) added 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were rising.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) was down 0.1% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was 0.2% lower.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) added 0.5%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) gained 1.2% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 1.1%.

Commodities

Crude fell 1.8%; United States Oil Fund (USO) was down 1.5%. Natural gas dropped 3.1% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) eased 2.9%.

Gold was up 1.7% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 1.7%. Silver was 1.4% higher and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) added 1.6%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) gained 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) was up 0.4%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was fractionally down; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) lost 0.4%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was down 0.1%. Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were lower.
