Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday Trading

01:15 PM EST, 11/13/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 0.2%.

US equity indexes rose in choppy trading Wednesday while most Treasury yields fell as bets favoring an interest-rate cut in December remained alive following the release of October's inflation data.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.7%, and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) added 0.9%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 0.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) dropped 1.3%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) fell 1.8%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.4%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 1.1%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 1.4%.

Commodities

Crude oil rose 0.7%, and United States Oil Fund (USO) added 0.8%. Natural gas edged up 2.9%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was up 1.7%.

Gold fell 0.7% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) lost 0.6%. Silver fell 0.3%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) eased 0.8%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) gained 1.1%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) edged up 0.1% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) was up 0.9%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) fell 0.1%, while iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were in the red. IShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 0.2%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.5%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
