Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise After Midday Trading on Election Day

01:09 PM EST, 11/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher Tuesday. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) rose 1.3%.

US equity indexes rose with government bond yields as investors weighed the mixed services data amid in-booth polling.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.7% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) gained 0.6%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) rose 1.3%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) both climbed.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) added 1.3% and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) was up 1.1%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) rose 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was 2.4% higher, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) dropped 2.5%.

Commodities

Crude oil was up 0.7%; United States Oil Fund (USO) rose 0.3%. Natural gas lost 2.5%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) dipped 3.7%.

Gold advanced 0.2% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.2%. Silver was up 0.5%, while iShares Silver Trust (SLV) climbed 0.6%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) was up 0.5%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) edged 1.8% higher; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) rose 0.6% while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) gained 0.9%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was 0.6% higher; iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were trending higher. iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) gained 0.8%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) climbed 1.5%, Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
