Exchange-Traded Funds, US Equities Rise While Treasury Yields Fall

12:56 PM EDT, 04/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds, including IWM and IVV, were trading higher. Actively-traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.4%.

US benchmark equity indexes rose while government bond yields fell with crude oil after midday on Monday.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) rose 0.8% and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) edged up 0.7%.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up 0.4%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were mixed, with the latter trading lower.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) and iShares PHLX Semiconductor (SOXX) rose 1.4% and 0.4%, respectively.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) gained 0.1%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X shares (FAS) was up 0.5% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) was down 0.3%.

Commodities

Crude was down 0.9%; United States Oil Fund (USO) fell 0.8%. Natural gas was up 5.7% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) increased 5.2%.

Gold was up 0.3% based on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) rose 0.2%. Silver was up 0.5% and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) gained 0.5%.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) fell 0.1%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) increased 2.2%; retail funds VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) and SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) were higher.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 0.4% and other funds iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were higher. Biotech ETF iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was up 1.9%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) rose 0.6% while other industrial funds iShares U.S. Industrials (IYJ), and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) were higher.
