Exchange-Traded Higher, US Equities Mixed After Midday

01:12 PM EST, 02/06/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Broad Market Indicators

Broad-market exchange-traded funds IWM and IVV were higher. Actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was up 0.1%.

US equity indexes traded mixed Thursday amid a quarterly earnings flood, with Amazon.com ( AMZN ) reporting after the bell and jobless claims increasing more than forecast.

Energy

iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) and Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) both fell about 1.8% each.

Technology

Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) was up 0.2%; iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) and iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) were higher.

SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD) fell 2.6%, and iShares Semiconductor (SOXX) dipped 0.8%.

Financial

Financial Select Sector SPDR (XLF) climbed 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 2.4%, and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) fell 2%.

Commodities

Crude oil fell 0.3%, and the United States Oil Fund (USO) lost 0.6%. Natural gas was down 1%, and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) fell 0.7%.

Gold lost 0.7% on Comex, and SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) eased 0.5%. Silver fell 1%, and iShares Silver Trust (SLV) was flat.

Consumer

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR (XLP) rose 0.3%; Vanguard Consumer Staples ETF (VDC) and iShares Dow Jones US Consumer Goods (IYK) were higher.

Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY) added 0.3%; retail fund VanEck Vectors Retail ETF (RTH) fell 0.1%, while SPDR S&P Retail (XRT) added 0.3%.

Health Care

Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) was down 0.4%, and iShares US Healthcare (IYH) and Vanguard Health Care ETF (VHT) were lower. IShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) fell 0.3%.

Industrial

Select Sector SPDR-Industrial (XLI) was up 0.4%, and Vanguard Industrials (VIS) and iShares US Industrials (IYJ) were higher.
