Gold Jumps Over 4%; Seagate Shares Gain After Q2 Results

U.S. stocks traded mixed midway through trading, with the S&P 500 falling around 0.1% on Wednesday.

The Dow traded up 0.02% to 49,012.75 while the NASDAQ fell 0.10% to 23,792.17. The S&P 500 also fell, dropping, 0.13% to 6,969.75.

Leading and Lagging Sectors

Energy shares gained by 0.7% on Wednesday.

In trading on Wednesday, health care stocks fell by 0.5%.

Top Headline

U.S. crude stocks declined by 2.296 million barrels in the week ended Jan. 23, versus market estimates of a 1.75 million-barrel gain.

Equities Trading UP

           

Tian Ruixiang Holdings Ltd. ( TIRX ) shares shot up 110% to $0.68 after the company announced it entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding with SwiftStart

Shares of Seagate Technology Holdings PLC ( STX ) got a boost, surging 20% to $447.84 after the company reported better-than-expected second-quarter financial results and issued third-quarter guidance above estimates. Also, Rosenblatt raised its price target on the stock from $370 to $500.

Nextpower Inc ( NXT ) shares were also up, gaining 12% to $118.59 after the company reported better-than-expected third-quarter financial results and raised its FY26 guidance. Also, the company announced its joint venture will provide 2.25 gigawatts of solar tracking systems to Larsen & Toubro for the Bisha Solar project.

Equities Trading DOWN

CalciMedica, Inc ( CALC ) shares dropped 75% to $1.2579 as the company announced discontinuation of Phase 2 KOURAGE trial in AKI following independent data monitoring committee recommendation.

Shares of Venu Holding Corporation ( VENU ) were down 31% to $5.93 after the company announced a $75 million public offering. The company reported preliminary fourth-quarter financial results.

Elevra Lithium Limited ( ELVR ) was down, falling 18% to $52.01. The company reported December 2025 quarter results.

Commodities

In commodity news, oil traded up 0.9% to $62.92 while gold traded up 4.1% at $5,290.30.

Silver traded up 6.7% to $113.065 on Wednesday, while copper rose 0.8% to $5.9085.

Euro zone

European shares were lower today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 fell 0.68%, while Spain's IBEX 35 Index fell 0.99%. London's FTSE 100 fell 0.37%, Germany's DAX fell 0.25% and France's CAC 40 dipped 0.87% during the session.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed higher on Wednesday, with Japan's Nikkei gaining 0.05%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gaining 2.58%, China's Shanghai Composite rising 0.27% and India's BSE Sensex gaining 0.60%.

Economics

The volume of mortgage applications dipped by 8.5% from the previous week during the week ending Jan. 23.

U.S. crude stocks declined by 2.296 million barrels in the week ended Jan. 23, versus market estimates of a 1.75 million-barrel gain.
