The Ministry of Finance is trying to hurry the process of making spot exchanges operational in time for the Interim Budget, which is expected to be unveiled in February, the report said citing unidentified top sources.

The report said that the centre wants more transparency in the price discovery of the physical bullion trading market as jewellers charge their own rates while buying and selling gold in the spot market.

The BSE and the MCX, the report said, are keen to launch spot exchange platforms.
