Breaking its nine-day losing streak, Sensex surged 404 points on Wednesday while Nifty reclaimed the 10,700 mark, escalated by gains in metal, IT and banking stocks amid positive global cues.

Sensex settled 403.65 points, or 1.14 per cent higher at 35,756.26 while Nifty soared 131.10 points, or 1.24 per cent, to 10,735.45. In the past nine sessions, the Sensex had lost 1,622.62 points, while the Nifty cracked 465.05 points over eight sessions.
On Wednesday, about 1,468 share advanced while 1,107 shares have declined, and 161 shares remain unchanged. All the sectoral indices were in the green territory majorly led by IT, metals, energy, infrastructure, bank, pharmaceutical and automobile stocks.
