Investors Await Key Inflation Data as US Futures Tread Water in Premarket Session
May 14, 2024 5:44 AM

08:16 AM EDT, 05/14/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US stock futures are treading water in Tuesday's premarket session as investors await key inflation data coming out later in the day and Wednesday.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gained 0.1%, S&P 500 futures were up 0.03%, and Nasdaq futures were off 0.03%.

Oil prices were moving modestly lower, with front-month global benchmarks North Sea Brent crude down 0.3% at $83.10 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude down 0.3% at $78.85 per barrel.

The producer price index for April, a leading indicator of consumer price inflation, is set for release at 8:30 a.m. ET and is expected to rise 0.3% from March, compared with a 0.2% rise the previous month, according to analysts' estimates compiled by Investing.com.

On the winning side, shares of GameStop ( GME ) skyrocketed over 110% in Tuesday's premarket sessions, adding to a 74% gain on Monday, while AMC Entertainment ( AMC ) soared over 88%, adding to 78% the previous session. Media reported that the rallies for both coincided with the return to social media Sunday of Keith Gill, also known as "Roaring Kitty." Gill took part in a 2021 meme stock rally. Meanwhile, shares of SunPower (SPWR) surged 64%, adding to a 20% gain on Monday.

On the losing side, shares of Augmedix ( AUGX ) fell 38% after it was downgraded Tuesday by analysts at Evercore ISI to an in-line rating from outperform, while the price target was set at $1.50 per share. Inotiv ( NOTV ) shares tumbled 34% after Jefferies' analysts downgraded the stock to hold from buy and set its price target at $3.75. And shares of Shimmick Corporation ( SHIM ) dropped nearly 10% after it reported Q1 earnings late Monday that missed expectations of analysts compiled by Capital IQ.
