UNICREDIT

UniCredit is aware of the concerns expressed by Commerzbank

about take-up data in the Italian bank's hostile

takeover offer for the German rival, but they do not change the

facts, a person close to UniCredit said on Wednesday.

MONTE DEI PASCHI DI SIENA (MPS), INTESA SANPAOLO

, UNIPOL, BANCO BPM, GENERALI

Italy needs to cut its residual stake in bailed-out MPS and

will back whichever constitutes the best merger deal between the

rival proposals on the table, Economy Minister Giancarlo

Giorgetti said on Wednesday.

(*) Intesa Sanpaolo shareholder Compagnia di San Paolo backs

the bank's bid MPS, the chairman of the banking foundation,

Marco Gilli, told daily La Stampa on Thursday.

(*) Antitrust concerns could represent the main weakness of

Intesa Sanpaolo's bid for MPS and could be a potential line of

defence for MPS CEO Luigi Lovaglio, La Repubblica reported on

Thursday.

(*) Asked about the potential impact of the bid by Intesa

for MPS, the country manager and CEO of Generali Italia,

Giancarlo Fancel, told La Stampa that the insurer remained

focused on executing its strategic plan, which is delivering

positive results, and on long-term value creation.

(*) Intesa's swoop on MPS bears the hallmarks of Chief

Executive Carlo Messina's approach: meticulously prepared with

loyal allies, and with buy-in from the government in Rome.

SAIPEM

The Italian energy services group said on Wednesday it had

won a €900 million onshore contract for a gas compression plant

project in Saudi Arabia.

TELECOM ITALIA

The Italian telecoms group said on Wednesday that the new

shares resulting from the 1-for-10 reverse stock split will be

listed from June 15.

FERRETTI

KKCG Maritime, the Czech investor in the Italian yachtmaker,

said on Wednesday it had filed a legal challenge seeking the

urgent suspension of key resolutions adopted at the latest

shareholder meeting, including the appointment of the board.

(*) Ferretti said on Thursday it would seek legal advice to

defend its position, adding that business would continue as

normal.

Morgan Stanley started coverage of the tower operator with

an 'equalweight' rating and a target price of €7.

In global markets, Asian shares fell, oil prices slumped and the safe-haven yen strengthened as trade negotiations between China and the US deteriorated suddenly, reversing apparent progress made in recent months. On Friday, Indian benchmark indices ended flat as investors remained cautious amid March-quarter earnings season. The indices posted marginal gains for the week. At 07:55 AM, the SGX Nifty, an early indicator of the Nifty 50's trend in India, was down 0.46 percent at 11,706, indicating a weak start for the Sensex and Nifty.
