The current rally in the market is slightly broad-based than what was seen in 2018 and early half of 2019, says Harish Krishnan, Senior VP & Equity Fund Manager, Kotak Mutual Fund.

He said Q2 earnings, by and large, have been on expected lines. “Largely, there have been deliverance of expectation from corporate India. This quarter there is also an element of tax cut boost in earning. On auto side, margins have been far better, cement has been a good sector in terms of earnings, consumer staples broadly have held through, banks have been stand out performers, especially the larger ones. Meanwhile, the larger IT names have shown sluggish performance and pharma numbers so far haven’t been exciting,” Krishnan said.

In mid and smallcaps, there are some strong companies out there which are sectoral leaders. "Some companies in the speciality chemicals and building construction space look interesting. There are gas companies which also look good, along with the whole host of capital goods companies in areas of emission control and pollution. All these are emerging sectors and themes," he added.
