Markets at close: How the major indices and stocks fared on Friday

Indian shares fell for the third consecutive day on Friday with the Nifty giving up its 20-day moving average of 11,828. The BSE Sensex slipped 289 points, down over 600 points from this week's high of 40,066. Both indexes posted their biggest weekly fall in one month.

Here's a quick recap of how top market indices and stocks fared on Tuesday:

Frontline indices

Nifty50: The broader 50-share NSE index ended sharply lower at 11,823, down by over 90 points, or 0.76 percent. So far this year, the Nifty has added over 960.75 points, rising 8.84 percent.

Sensex: The 30-share benchmark Sensex settled 289 points lower, or 0.73 percent, at 39,452. So far this year, the BSE index has surged over 9.38 percent, adding 3384 points.

Key stocks

HDFC Bank: The private sector lenders' shares dipped 0.43 percent in trade today, quoting at Rs 2,436.70 on BSE.

HDFC: The HDFC group's NBFC share settled at Rs 2,175.75, down by 0.97 percent on BSE.

Reliance Industries: The oil-telecom-retail conglomerates' shares ended 0.56 percent lower at close, settling at Rs 1,316.95 on BSE.

Hindustan Unilever: The FMCG major's stock closed at Rs 1,824.95 per share, down by 1.02 percent at close on BSE.

Tata Consultancy Services: The IT major settled 0.09 percent higher, closing at Rs 2,252.30 per share on BSE.

Major sectors

Nifty Bank: The banking gauge settled flat at 30,614, down by 361.75 points, or 1.17 percent. So far this year, Nifty Bank has gained 12.72 percent.

Nifty Auto: The index fell 1.05 percent to settle at 8,031. So far this year, it has corrected by 13.04 percent.

Nifty IT: The IT index slipped 0.30 percent to settle at 16268. So far this year, it has gained 12.66 percent.

Nifty FMCG: So far this year, Nifty FMCG has lost 1.8 percent. It settled sharply lower, down 1.28 percent, falling by over 388 points, at 29966.

Nifty Metal: The metal index fell 0.37 percent to settle at 2944.90. So far this year, the index has lost 6.65 percent.
