Markets remain flat, Nifty above 11,700 level; auto, metal stocks drag

Indian shares are trading flat in the afternoon session on Monday, amid heavy selling in auto and metal sector.

At 12:00 PM, the Sensex was at 39,190.28, down 4.21 points, or 0.01 percent, while Nifty 50 was trading at 11,721.65, down 2.45 points or 0.02 percent.

UPL, YES Bank, Zee Entertainment, Adani Ports and State Bank of India were among the top gainers on the key indices, whereas ONGC, Vedanta, JSW Steel, Bajaj Auto and Eicher Motors led losses.

The Nifty PSU Bank index remained the best-performing index while Nifty Auto was the worst-performing index, dragged lower by TVS Motors, Motherson Sumi Systems, Bajaj Auto, Eicher Motors and others.

Shares of Emami Limited slipped nearly 6 percent on Monday after the promoters sold stake via block deals. In a huge block deal, the promoters sold 8.3 percent equity.

CG Power shares rose over 7 percent after the heavy electrical equipment company announced that it will sell its land in Kanjurmarg, near Mumbai, that currently houses the transformer manufacturing unit, to Evie Real Estate Private Ltd. for Rs 498.96 crore.

The share price of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals fell more than 6 percent to its day's low after the US Drug and Food Administration issued a complete response letter regarding the new drug application for Ryaltris, a nasal spray drug.

Meanwhile, Asian shares traded mixed on Monday afternoon, while oil prices continued to rise as tensions between the US and Iran lingered after the latter shot down an American surveillance drone.
