01:42 PM EDT, 03/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks rose Tuesday afternoon with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) increasing 0.3% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) climbing 0.7%.

Redbook US same-store sales in the week ended March 16 rose 3.4% from a year earlier following a 3% increase in the previous week.

In corporate news, Nordstrom ( JWN ) shares jumped 9% as Reuters reported the retailer's founding family plans to take the company private.
