Redbook US same-store sales in the week ended March 16 rose 3.4% from a year earlier following a 3% increase in the previous week.
In corporate news, Nordstrom ( JWN ) shares jumped nearly 9% after Reuters reported the retailer's founding family plans to take the company private.
Unilever ( UL ) gained 3% after the company said that it plans to spin off its ice cream unit and cut 7,500 jobs under a new plan to rein in costs.
Keurig Dr Pepper ( KDP ) said Tuesday it continues to expect full-year 2024 adjusted earnings per share growth of a high-single-digit range and constant currency net sales growth in a mid-single-digit range. Its shares were down fractionally.
