03:41 PM EDT, 10/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were rising late Tuesday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) increasing 0.5% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) up 0.2%.
Redbook US same-store sales rose 5.6% from a year earlier in the week ended Oct. 12, above the 5.4% increase in the previous week.
In corporate news, Honda Motor ( HMC ) unit American Honda said Tuesday it is recalling about 720,000 vehicles in the US for a free inspection of fuel pumps and to replace any defective parts identified during the process. Honda ( HMC ) shares were falling 3.5%.
Albertsons ( ACI ) reported fiscal Q2 adjusted net income of $0.51 per diluted share, down from $0.63 a year earlier. Analysts polled by Capital IQ expected $0.48. Its shares rose 1.3%.
Coty ( COTY ) shares tumbled past 11% after the company reported preliminary results for Q1, including its sales rising about 4% to 5% like for like, lower than its previously estimated growth of 6%.
Tesla (TSLA) received the first partial approval for its plan to expand the Gruenheide plant in Germany from the Brandenburg state office for the environment, Bloomberg reported. Tesla shares were marginally higher.
