Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Gain Late Afternoon

03:48 PM EDT, 06/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were rising late Thursday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) adding 0.4% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) up 0.7%.

In corporate news, GameStop ( GME ) shares surged almost 39% after meme stock leader "Roaring Kitty," whose real name is Keith Gill, scheduled a YouTube livestream at noon on Friday, media outlets reported.

Hertz Global ( HTZ ) is mulling a sale of at least $700 million in secured debt as a convertible notes offering, Bloomberg reported Thursday. Hertz shares dropped almost 5%.

J.M. Smucker (SJM) reported better-than-expected fiscal Q4 earnings, while guiding to annual sales growth in fiscal 2025. Its shares popped 5%.

Lyft ( LYFT ) said Thursday it expects a gross bookings compound annual growth rate of about 15% from full-year 2024 to full-year 2027. The target was among those released as part of the company's first investor day. Lyft ( LYFT ) shares were up 1%.
