Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Higher Friday Afternoon

01:40 PM EDT, 07/25/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were higher Friday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) up fractionally and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) rising 0.9%.

In corporate news, Deckers Outdoor ( DECK ) shares jumped past 11% after the company recorded a surprise year-over-year increase in its fiscal Q1 earnings, while sales topped market expectations amid double-digit growth in its Hoka sneaker and UGG lifestyle brands.

Charter Communications' ( CHTR ) Q2 results rose annually, but the cable giant said that it lost more than 100,000 of internet subscribers. The shares fell more than 17%.

AutoNation ( AN ) reported stronger-than-expected Q2 results as increased new vehicle sales and higher prices helped boost the automotive retailer's top line. Its shares added 0.9%.

Paramount's (PARA) $8 billion acquisition by Skydance was approved by the US Federal Communications Commission, transferring control of CBS broadcast licenses to the new ownership, the FCC said Thursday. Paramount was down 2%.
