03:58 PM EST, 01/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were higher late Monday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) increasing 0.3% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) edging up 0.4%.
In corporate news, Toyota ( TM ) has decided that North American salaried workers will return to the office Monday through Thursday, Bloomberg reported. Toyota ( TM ) shares were down 0.3%.
E.l.f. Beauty (ELF) shares climbed 5% after Morgan Stanley upgraded the company's stock to overweight from equalweight and raised its price target to $153 from $139.
Macy (M) shares fell nearly 8%. The company said it achieved roughly flat comparable sales quarter-to-date and that fiscal Q4 net sales are expected to be at, or slightly below, the low end of its previous $7.8 billion to $8 billion range.
Abercrombie & Fitch ( ANF ) said that it now expects fiscal Q4 net sales to increase 7% to 8%, up from its prior outlook of 5% to 7% growth. Its shares were falling 16%.
