Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Higher in Late Afternoon Trading

03:46 PM EST, 02/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Consumer stocks were rising late Thursday afternoon, with the Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) adding 1% and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) climbing 1.5%.

In corporate news, Papa John's International (PZZA) shares jumped 17% after Semafor reported that an investment fund backed by a member of Qatar's royal family is mulling a takeover of the pizza restaurant chain.

Hanesbrands ( HBI ) shares fell past 18% after it announced a leadership change and reported fiscal Q4 net sales that missed analyst estimates.

Dutch Bros (BROS) shares surged 25% after Wedbush and UBS boosted their price targets on the stock following higher Q4 results.

MGM Resorts International ( MGM ) shares spiked nearly 18% after its Q4 results beat market expectations.
